He is the Principal Investigator for the \u201cInnovations in Linguistic Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion in the Linguistics Curriculum and Beyond\u201d project, which LEDIR is a main component of. His research is on the phonetics and phonology of spoken and signed languages, historical linguistics, and innovative and inclusive teaching in linguistics. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized is-style-rounded\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ledir.ling.utoronto.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Nathan-2019.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-228\" width=\"488\" height=\"488\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ledir.ling.utoronto.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Nathan-2019.jpeg 646w, https:\/\/ledir.ling.utoronto.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Nathan-2019-300x300.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/ledir.ling.utoronto.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Nathan-2019-150x150.jpeg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 488px) 100vw, 488px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Dr. Lex Konnelly<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Lex finished their PhD in the Departments of Linguistics and Sexual Diversity Studies at the University of Toronto, and was one of the first two Lead EDI TAs for this project. They are now a QA Analyst at Dialpad. Their doctoral research focused on linguistic innovations and advocacy in transgender, non-binary, and gender-diverse communities of practice. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized is-style-rounded\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.linguistics.utoronto.ca\/sites\/www.linguistics.utoronto.ca\/files\/styles\/ne_3btn_widget\/public\/lex-konnelly-portrait_0.jpg?itok=dv9MhV8e\" alt=\"Headshot of Lex Konnelly\" width=\"485\" height=\"354\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Dr. Pocholo Umbal<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Pocholo finished his PhD in the Department of Linguistics at the University of Toronto, and was one of the first two Lead EDI TAs for this project. He is now an Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto. She was an instrumental collaborator who gave valuable guidance that shaped the project in its early days. She specializes in theoretical phonology and documentation of Indigenous languages, especially in Northwest Territories, Canada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized is-style-rounded\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ledir.ling.utoronto.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/keren.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-530\" width=\"322\" height=\"322\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ledir.ling.utoronto.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/keren.png 537w, https:\/\/ledir.ling.utoronto.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/keren-300x300.png 300w, https:\/\/ledir.ling.utoronto.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/keren-150x150.png 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 322px) 100vw, 322px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Dr. Naomi Nagy<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Naomi is a Professor in the Department of Linguistics at the University of Toronto. She was also an instrumental collaborator who gave valuable guidance that shaped the project in its early days. She specializes in sociolinguistics, with a focus on heritage languages.
